The new 911 GT3 RS is the most extreme
997 to date and wears a price tag
to match. Here are the official details.
Porsche has officially announced it is to
build a 997-series 911 GT3 RS. On-sale
from October 2006, it will cost £94,280,
a whopping £14,000 more than the regular
GT3. The model will also go on sale
in North America from March 2007 and,
according to a spokesman, just a ‘couple
of hundred’ will be produced in both leftand
right-hand drive.
The second incarnation of the GT3 RS –
the first 996 derivative arrived in late 2003
– takes its mechanicals from the current
911 GT3 but uses the wider and stiffer
Carrera 4/4S body. Along with increasing
the rear width by 44mm, this has enabled
the engineers to fit a wider rear track
and adjust the rear suspension geometry
accordingly. This will allow Porsche to homologate
the new RS for GT racing and
introduce a new 911 RSR race car for its
motorsport customers.

911 GT3 RS auf Basis des 997 zu bauen.
Seit Oktober 2006 ist er für den Preis von
129.659,- Euro erhältlich. Der Preisaufschlag
gegenüber dem normalen GT3
beträgt also 21.576,- Euro. In Nordamerika
wird das Modell ab März 2007 zum
Verkauf stehen. Laut eines Porschesprechers
werden nur einige Hundert Linksund
Rechtslenker produziert.
Es ist die zweite Auflage eines GT3 RS
- der Erste auf Basis des 996 kam Ende
2003 auf den Markt. Der neue 997 baut
auf dem aktuellen GT3 auf. Die breitere
und steifere Karosserie jedoch stammt
vom Carrera 4/4S. Sie wurde hinten um
44 mm verbreitert, was den Ingenieuren
die Möglichkeit gab eine breitere Hinterachse
einzubauen, auf die natürlich die
Fahrwerksgeometrie angepasst werden
